Hey, Mark! I think this illustration is well on it's way, but I can see a few things that might make it better. One is, the light value on the whale's chin in the BG is the same or as close to the water next to it, and we lose his shape. Either darkening him or the water will help. I also think the man is having that issue with his head right on the white stripe (or marking or whatever) on the giant ray. Hope this helps! :)
oh and also the lavender fish next to the lavender color around the ray's eye is kinda confusing because it makes it look like his head is fading away or something.
